Facebook makes me a better friend.
The reasons are five fold...
1) They tell me who to wish a "Happy Birthday". Without these birthday reminders, many people could go a full day without celebrating with random people they haven't spoken to in years.
2) I become immediately aware of breakups and hookups, by paying attention to a change in "relationship status". The status of their heart tells me who needs to be comforted, and who needs someone to be excited with. I can become aware of who not to try to set up with someone for a GYRAD...because they are already taken.
3) The wall-to-wall feature reminds me of the ongoing conversation I have with people I don't text or call or see everyday. It's really quite similar to speaking face to face.
4) Photos can be posted immediately, and I don't necessarily have to see a person to know that their sister got married, or their brother's wife's friend's niece had a baby, or they celebrated their roommates' birthday at Disneyland/BJ's/the Beach. I even get a glimpse into people's study times, by seeing their photobooth albums.
5) Status updates allow me to get to know a person better, above all. I can find out what songs they like, when they're sad or angry or happy, or where they're traveling this upcoming weekend.
All in all...
Facebook really does make me a better friend.
